BEML, a company that makes railway, defence, transport and mining equipment, will manufacture the carriages of the first domestic bullet train. The company was awarded a contract worth Rs 867 crore for this purpose.

The contract was awarded to the company by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. After a deal to buy the bullet train from Japan failed to come to fruition, Indian Railways decided to build it itself in the country.

A coach will cost Rs 27.86 crore

According to documents released by BEML, the price per coach will be 278.6 million rupees, with the total contract value being 866.87 million rupees. This includes design costs, one-time development costs, non-recurring expenses, one-time costs for jigs, fixtures, tooling and test facilities.

The high-speed EMU will be delivered by the end of 2026

The company said the project is a milestone in India’s high-speed rail journey. The project will provide independently designed and manufactured trains with a speed of 280 kilometers per hour. The trains will be built at BEML’s Bengaluru Railway Coach Complex and are scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2026.

Equipped with swivel chairs and in-car infotainment system

The new trains will have air-conditioned carriages with seats that can tilt and swivel. Passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility will receive separate facilities and in-flight infotainment systems.

Last year, Railways built standard gauge tracks in Rajasthan for testing high-speed trains. Railways is gearing up to export trains to India.

BEML builds sleeper carriages for India’s high-speed luxury train Vande Bharat

BEML manufactures the sleeper carriages of India’s high-speed luxury train Vande Bharat. Last month (September 1), Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav visited the first model of Vande Bharat sleeper train.

He told us that the Vande Bharat sleeper train will be launched in the next 3 months i.e. in December. The manufacturing work of the bus has been completed. It will be produced from the BEML factory in a few days. Train testing will continue over the next two months. After this, the train will start for passengers.

The railway minister said that the design distance of Vande Bharat sleeper trains is 800 to 1,200 kilometers. Passengers will board the flight around 10pm and arrive at their destination in the morning. This train is designed for the middle class. The fare will be the same as that of Rajdhani.
